If you are interested in seeing how you can block off times in the calendar for when one or more of your work crew are taking vacations, then this is the tutorial for you.
Go to the Calendar.
Choose the start date for when the employee is supposed to start their vacation from the calendar on the left.
You can either right click on the date in a time slot to "Add Event"
or you can double left click as well.
Choose General for the Type of Appt.
For the category, you can click the blue icon to the right of the drop down if you wish to add the category of Vacation as a selection.
Click Add New Item on the list menu.
Type in Vacation in the blank box that displayed and then you can click on the color box to the right to change the color of the box. Make sure to choose a color that stands out from the rest of the entries on the calendar. Once you choose the color click the color wheel icon in the bottom right of the color picker to save the selection.
Then click the save button to save the category.
Select the appropriate employee from the resources drop down.
Set the time to be the start and end of your business hours to make the event box bigger, I will show you how that looks later, if you do not wish to have this display in the forefront, you can choose the "All Day Event" and it will move this event to the all day section at the top of the calendar.
For the sake of this tutorial, I will be setting the time to be 8am - 5pm
Now instead of performing this task over and over for every day, you can check the "Recurrence" box to the right of the Start and End Time section.
This will help save you time by duplicating this time slot for multiple days.
On the recurrence details section, go to the bottom section for Recurrence Pattern.
Choose the start date of the vacation and then choose the radial for End By. Click into the box to the right of End By and choose the end date for the vacation. Click Save at the Bottom.
Your calendar will now have a huge block off of time for this employee for their vacation time.
